"Our Maine cross calves have great length, thick tops and big butts...they just seem to click with Angus cattle"
Breeders find that not only do Maine-Anjou sires produce quick growing calves, but that they colour like their mothers.
The reason for this is that Maine-Anjou colourings are recessive and dominant colours such black will overcome the markings of a traditional coloured Maine-Anjou.This recessive colouring will mean that generally a black cow will still have a black calf, a grey cow will have a grey calf and a baldy cow will have a baldy calf. Perhaps this is why Maine-Anjou sires have long been the best kept secret in the beef industry.
